2008 Summer Highlighted Trips

Experience the highlights of the Turnagain Arm! Depart from your accommodations or the Anchorage Activities Center for the scenic drive south to Girdwood, a quaint little mining-town-turned-ski-resort at the base of Mt. Alyeska. After checking in at the Girdwood Activities Center, lunch is served at the top of the tram at Mt. Alyeska with a vista of views you can only imagine until you are there. We then continue on to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center for an informative visit through the park with the largest of Alaska's wild animals. Then it's off to Portage Glacier Road for a view of several Alpine glaciers and other spectaculr scenery before returning to Girdwood and then back to Anchorage with more sites to see as time allows.

Head out on the Activities Circuit from Anchorage and start the day with an ascent by aerial tram to a delicious lunch at the top of Mt. Alyeska. After lunch you will meet up at Girdwood Activities Center for the fitting of rain gear (future splashing fun possible!) and transport to the boat launch for jet boating adventures. Our experienced jet boat captain will take you up the remote 20-Mile River Valley to Carmen Lake and right up to the face of a glacier. Hang on tight for the thrilling ride back downstream through ice bergs, log jams, and tight corners. Excitement awaits!

After lunch at the top of the tram at Mt. Alyeska, we transport you back in time to an historic gold mine. Try your luck panning for gold and see how miners worked their magic at the turn of the century. Then take a short hike through the rainforest, try out a cable hand tram, and get ready for rafting the creek. We paddle through Class II and III rapids suitable for all ages and experience levels while taking in some of the best scenery around.

After lunch at the top of the tram at Mt. Alyeska, board the helicopter for a spectacular ride with a glacier landing. Once on the glacier, meet up with a professional musher for an educational and amazing adventure being pulled by a real mushing team of huskies - and drive the team yourself! This tour departs out of Anchorage to theSouthern edge of Denali National Park. A private van will take you to an amazing expanse of wilderness to watch for the Northern Lights. While there your hosts will serve up a hot meal of homemade soup, bread, and beverages in our cozy yurt-style hut. This is sure to be an evening of peaceful, satisfying wilderness adventure rimmed with the lights of the aurora.

Join the Salmon Berry crew for an all-day adventure to watch the official start of the Iditarod in Willow Alaska. We’ll start off heading north from Anchorage with hot chocolate service in our private tour bus. Once in Willow guests will have VIP passes to meet dogs and mushers while the guides set up a barbecue right on the lake! We’ll be passing out hot food all day long while mushers start the race and pass by. After the last musher is on their way we’ll pack up and head back to town with full bellies and stories to tell.
